With the current Global pandemic of the COVID-19 (Corona Virus), it is easy and also legitimate for us to have normal emotions: stress, concern, and even fear. As Indigenous People whose ancestors were intentionally exposed to viruses, this moment can also be triggering and bring up ancestral trauma and even distrust and disbelief. Elders have lived through trauma and witnessed the blatant disregard for human compassion with attempts to completely eliminate Native American people, simply because they occupied land that settlers wanted. Our elders are at risk with this deadly virus, and our Indigenous people are more susceptible to pre-existing health conditions that they manage every day - such as diabetes, high blood pressure & more, that then make this COVID-19 more dangerous to fight.
